The DNA Services Director
Alvaro G. Hernandez, Ph.D.
I serve as the Director of DNA Services at the Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center (CBC), leading the next-generation sequencing division serving academic, federal, and corporate partners. I received my PhD from the University of Illinois in March 2001 and joined the CBC a week later as a postdoctoral student. I became Assistant Director in 2005 and Director in 2008. My focus is on facility management, user support, and development of strategic partnerships. The DNA Services lab provides state-of-the-art equipment and expertise to users around the world.

Chris Wright
Associate Director of DNA Services
Chris Wright
Associate Director of DNA Services
I joined the DNA Services lab in 2001. I hold a BS in Microbiology from the University of Illinois and am
ASCP (M) credentialed in clinical microbiology. I have been closely involved with every sequencing technology advance since Sanger sequencing through the Illumina NovaSeq X platform. I specialize in helping researchers move their projects forward with the best use of NGS technology, and I manage the single cell applications within the lab. Outside the lab, I can often be spotted running, either around town or on nearby trails.
