Functional Genomics Director
Mark is the director of the Carver Biotechnology Center, Functional Genomics Lab. As part of the Genomics facilities founded with a grant from the W. M. Keck Foundation to the University of Illinois Biotechnology Center the original focus centered on microarray technologies for high throughput gene expression assays. Today, the central theme of the lab is amplicon library prep for microbial community studies as well as gene expression technologies.
Mark earned his undergraduate degree in Life Sciences from the Open University of Israel, followed by a Ph.D. in Animal Genetics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot, Israel. He later moved to the University of Illinois to complete a postdoc in comparative genomics. In 1999 he joined the Carver Biotechnology Center as the founding Director of the Functional Genomics Lab.
