Data Management
Help with data management
HPCBio has extensive experience working with genomic data for a wide range of analyses. We can assist if you need help with any aspect of data management, including long-term data archival and deposition of data into public repositories such as NCBI or EBI. We can also utilize client-supplied alternatives if UIUC Box is not feasible or when clients want data posted to a specific location. Please reach out and contact us if this is needed.
HPCBio Data Management Policy
CBC and HPCBio have performed analyses for researchers at UIUC and around the world for over thirty years. Recently, we found that some clarification is needed about HPCBio’s data management policies, particularly as storage costs have increased in parallel with the size and complexity of data over the last decade.
We will ensure that you get a copy of your results, and we can assist with data management where needed on a consulting basis. However, long term storage and backup of raw and processed project data is the primary responsibility of the researcher.
Our policy:
- HPCBio uses UIUC Box to enable transfer of project data, results, reports, documentation, and other materials to clients. These will be available for three months after the end of a project.
- HPCBio does not retain raw instrumentation data after the project ends. This includes raw sequence data (FASTQ), metabolomic data, images, etc.
- Similarly, HPCBio does not retain intermediate data, such as alignment files (BAM), once final data are posted and the project ends.
- Options for posting large data (files > 2GB) to cloud accounts are available upon request. These are available for a maximum of two weeks.
