  1. My experiment needs use the instrument in your facility, should I come over directly to set up things?
It is always preferred to talk with our staff first or set up a meeting to clarify things in your projects.
  2. For metabolite profiling experiment, how to prepare the samples before running on your machine?
Please refer to Sample Preparation Protocols. However, the listed procedures are optional. You are welcome to choose your favorite ones only if they are good for metabolite profiling experiment.
  3. Could I reserve the instrument time on line?
Currently we do not use on-line reservation for the instrument analysis. It is required for the users to sign on the signup sheet in the lab or contact lab personnel to reserve the usage time.
  4. I found a paper which used some instrument available in your lab, and I want to try in my experiment, but I do not have any knowledge for the instrument. Could you help guide me some fundamentals?
Yes, we provide training for the users if they prefer to operate the open-access machine. We also help develop method for users’ projects generally without charge.
  5. How to acknowledge your facility?
Our lab should be referred to as "Metabolomics Center, Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign". Acknowledgements of individuals who are contributing significantly to your projects are always appreciated. For 5500 QTrap (LC/MS) usage, please state “5500 QTrap MS is funded by National Center For Research Resources (S10RR024516)”. Fee Structure

All work performed by the Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center (CBC) should be acknowledged in scholarly publications, posters, and presentations. Proper recognition allows us to measure the impact of our work and supports our initiatives in obtaining sponsored funding.
