Single Cell RNA-Seq Analysis Workshop
WHEN: Everything is tentative since we had to cancel our original dates. But here’s what we’re roughly planning… Main workshop will be held over 3 Tuesday/Thursdays (Dates in February TBD), & and an optional advanced workshop will be held on the following 3 Tuesday/Thursdays (See table below). We’ll likely meet 9:30am – 4:00pm w/ an hour break for lunch at noon.

WHAT: In addition to our main Single Cell RNA-Seq Analysis workshop we are tentatively offering advanced sessions after the main workshop. The online main workshop will include an introduction to single cell technology and experimental design, and detailed steps on how to perform bioinformatics and statistical analyses on 10X Genomics’ single cell gene expression data in both Linux and R platforms. This includes software like CellRanger and Loupe browser, as well as R packages like Seurat.
The advanced workshop is a semi-structured time to synthesize what you’ve learned in the workshop to your own dataset (or a published dataset) under the guidance of HPCBio staff. Every dataset is different there are often several small or large differences between your data and the example dataset provided in the main workshop that could be tricky to navigate. Due to this, attendees are more likely to achieve their personal research goals and solidify their understanding of RNA-Seq by attending these advanced sessions. NEW this year: we’ll also provide guidance on utilizing AI to achieve your analyses goals while avoiding common pitfalls. We also acknowledge that everyone has different views on AI, and so employing AI is not required to successfully complete these sessions. At registration you’ll apply for these, but will not pay for them until we confirm the location and approve your application.
WHO: Intended for graduate students, post-docs, research staff, and faculty from any University/organization (different rates apply; see COST section).
PREREQUISITES: A beginner knowledge of bash (a.k.a command line linux), high-performance computing (HPC), and R programming is required to take this workshop. After your registration, we will provide details and materials on how to fulfill these requirements on your own time. This is a fast-paced workshop; while it will reasonable to ask questions about bash, HPC, and R if you forget something, it is not possible for us to catch you up if you haven’t reviewed any prerequisite material.
WHERE: The main workshop will be held online via Zoom. The advanced workshop will be held in-person on the UIUC campus (location TBD).
COST: See table below.
| Main Workshop | Advanced Workshop* | |
| UIUC, UIC, & UIS | TBD | TBD |
| Public Illinois University | TBD | TBD |
| Other | TBD | TBD |
* Since seats are limited in the advanced workshop, you may apply for it when you register for the main workshop. You won’t be invoiced for it until after you are accepted.
HOW: Registration coming soon!
